In this number we will explain you how to deal with the inbound faxes and how to perform fax mailing.

Inbound faxes

This month we have written a massive topic regarding the inbound faxes. Why do you need FaxStar to deal with inbound faxes?:

1. Limit the number of physical fax machines. Why keeping all this machines while all inbound faxes can be set to one FaxStar machine?
2. Time saving. How many time lost in front of a fax machine waiting for the paper to be print out?
3. No more fax loss. With physical printer, the paper can be lost or not given to the correct person.
4. Security. It may be a good idea that sensitive data are not printed on a volatil paper...

And the money you may save in:

1. Limiting the number of phone lines. You don't need so many lines since there are not used a 100% of time
2. Limiting the paper and ink. Do you need to print every received fax?

With FaxStar your have the possibility to see the inbound faxes totally differently. FaxStar Advanced Server is compatible with most analog and numerci phone system, and can be directly connected to the service provider, or connected to a PBX.

Note also that you can easily route every incoming fax according to:

1. the number called
2. the phone line used
3. the caller ID

Moreover FaxStar Advanced Server has an intelligent load balancing option that allows you to adapt the needed ressources according to your traffic.

Every incoming fax can be:

1. sent by email
2. and/or left in a network folder
3. and/or printed on a network folder
4. and/or sent by FTP

Many image format are available such as JPG, TIF and PDF. You can also ask FaxStar to give a data file with every incoming fax for any archiving solution.

And that's not all! If you already own a FaxStar server, note that activate the inbound faxes is totally free! It will only cost something if you need more lines.

Fax mailing with MS Word

It is possible with FaxStar to generate a fax mailing with Microsoft Word. In order to do so you will need the FaxStar Host and FaxStar PCL licenses, and follow the described steps:

1. Create a datasource, for instance a .csv file containing the following fields:
   1. Name
   2. Company
   3. Fax
   4. Other fiels if necessary
2. Fill the .csv file with your recipient data
3. Create a Word document that would be the letter you want to fax. This document can have multiple pages but in only one letter (not one for each recipient...).
4. Go in « tools > Letters and Mailing » and follow the wizard to merge your Word document with your .CSV file.You will be prompted to place the fields whenerver you want in the letter. To add the fax command, write everywhere in the first page this: **(FAX): and insert the «fax» field just after. End the command with a point and change the font of all the command in "Courrier" size "10". Here is what you should see: **(FAX):«Fax».
5. Add the **END command on the last document page (in courrier 10).
6. At the end of the mailing wizard, you will have to print your document on an HP laserJet III printer connected in LPR mode to the FaxStar printer, and Word will generate as many fax than recipients in the .csv.

Diva Line Test

If you own an Eicon/Dialogic fax board with your FaxStar Advanced Server, you must know that it exists an application to test the lines. This application is named "Diva Line Check" or "Line Test" according to the drivers version. You can run it from the Windows start menu.
