We have worked a lot on Traffic Manager, the Windows traffic follow-up for FaxStar, in order to optimize the resend feature. The result seems OK. We are also working on the SMS implementation and this should be ready pretty soon. Then we will see how to embed the emails.

Resend (part 2)
After a lot of thinking, we changed the way Traffic Manager handle the resend.
It is important to make the distinction between several notions when we talk about resend. Here are the different cases:
- resend a fax that did not reach its destination (busy for instance). In that case, the resend will be done at the same destination.
- resend a fax that did not reach its destination but the user want to change the fax number.
- resend a fax because the recipient want a new sending.
We think that those case have to be handle differently. We decide that only the first case can be considered has a resend and the two other cases are new fax.
We are doing this for legal reason. If you resend a fax and change the fax number, then you will lose any trace of the previous number and this is not legal.
So, with the latest version of Traffic Manager, if a call did not reach its destination after the defined attemps and you want to resend it to the same number, the corresponding line in the traffic will be updated.
But if you decide to change the fax number then a new entry is created in the traffic.
By the way, we are working on the SMS implementation and we should talk about this pretty soon.

Sand and receive SMS with FaxStar
As you may know, FaxStar is not only a fax server but can also send email and send/receive SMS!
In order to send SMS using FaxStar, it is easy:
- you can either leave a .txt file into a dedicated network folder, containing a **(SMS) +33612345678 command followed by the text you want to submit.
- or you can send an email using a specific format to your Microsoft Exchange server, Domino server, or any SMTP compliant server.
FaxStar can also transmit over the network, or by email, any received SMS!
With this function, you can easily imagine a number of application to send and receive SMS.
Dealing with SMS is something your customers will appreciate. it shows your modernity and your reactivity, and it does not cost much!
All you need is a compatible GSM modem, a SIM card and add a SMS license to your FaxStar Advanced Server.

Hoctoplus Monthly Offer

Numeric sequences
You probably know that using FaxStar you can attach documents (TIF, PDF, RTF, etc.) to your fax with the commands **XATTACH or **ATTACH. Files will then be converted into images and faxed with the rest of the fax.
If the documents are TIF images, and name ends by a number (for instance MyTif01.tif), and it exists other files with the same base name + the following number (so MyTif02.TIF, MyTif03.TIF, etc...), then FaxStar will automatically add those TIF images.
This has been done because must of scanner are not able to create multipage TIF file, so it was the only way to automatically add those images.
This can be annoying and here is a solution to delete this function:
