FaxStar is still evolving and we should receive very soon a new version running under Windows 7 and Windows 2008 Server. Some would say we are not very fast, but we needed some times to bypass some issues concerning the MailGateways. We'll let you know!
In this issue, we'll talk about FaxStar Print2Fax. Developped in Europe it has been designed to replace the FaxStar for Windows module. Besides this, we'll explain you how we will combinate FaxStar and Lasernet on a huge site in order to send emails and faxes.

Print2Fax
This month, a reminder: Print2Fax.
Print2Fax is a FaxStar Advanced Server's module allowing your users to send faxes from their PCs. Let's imagine a user want to fax his Word or Excel document ; the only thing he has to do is print it on the "Print2Fax" printer. I will immediately brings the Print2Fax interface where he can specify the fax number to send the fax to. Moreover, Print2Fax has a lot of features:
- Send a fax to one or more recipients. You can even use a distribution list.
- Personal and common phonebooks.
- Call history.
- Coverpage with company logo and memo.
- Possibility to add other documents, automatically or OnDemand (sales conditions for instance).
- No modem required. Fax demands are sends to the FaxStar server where calls are made.
- Acknowledgment received by emails.
- Display of received and sent faxes through "Traffic Manager".
- Preview before sending.
- Save in PDF format.
- Compatible with FaxStar Host and FaxStar MailGateway SMTP options.
- TSE compatibility.
- One unique price and no users limitation.

LaserNet/FaxStar
Connect multiple LaserNet servers to one FaxStar server.
The Challenge :
One of our customer has multiple Lasernet servers on more than 10 sites. LaserNet is an Output management solution that can transform spooled files into complex documents. You can find more information regarding Lasernet on this link. This customer uses Lasernet to create invoices, orders, etc... in PDF files or simply printed.
Every site want to fax and email those documents. Our customer did not want to manage a fax server for every site, so we defined one centralised FaxStar Advanced Server.
The problem
In order to send a fax, FaxStar must receives from every Lasernet server a PDF file and a TXT file containing the PDF filename and fax number, but:
- we do not want to use FTP to avoid numerous connexions.
- it was important to ensure that the PDF file exists before TXT file is created.
The answer
On the LaserNet servers:
- A program includes the TXT informations directly in the PDF header.
- The modified PDF is then transfer using LPD/LPR to the FaxStar server.
FaxStar then receives the spooled files, and send the PDF file by fax and/email according to the headers informations.

Changing the messages for inbound SMS
If you have a SMS extension for FaxStar Advanced Server you can send but also receive SMS. Incoming SMS can be:
- sent by email
and/or
- stored in a network folder.
In both cases there is a message with the SMS message itself. You can easily set up this message.
Regarding the network storage you can can modify the message dealing with the following key:
Path : HKey_Local_Machine\Software\Sepe Inc.\Catalina\Config\Config\SMS
Type : REG_SZ
Name : InFmt
Value : Your message (max 200 characters)
The message can contain the following strings:
%1 = date and time
%2 = recipient
%3 = SMS message
%n = line feed+carriage return
Example:
Date and Time of reception: %1%nFrom : +%2%n%nMessage :%n%3%n
If you want to change the message included in the email, you can edit the following key:

The email subject can contain the following a %s string which corresponds to the SMS originator.
