We are sorry to have forget the October issue. It was more a timing problem. We were working on two huge projects and were very busy. By the way, we'll talk about those projects in few months we hope.

In this issue we'll talk about the old FaxStar machine over Coax, Twinax and old TCP/IP (not running Windows). Then the rest of the news is very technic.

Few weeks ago, a customer who still use its old FaxStar unit running DOS had sent us back his machine since it was not sending fax anymore. After a brief test, we found the HDD was dead. We have passed 3 weeks to find a HDD able to work on that machine and recognized by the BIOS! So we are sorry to say that:

We do not support anymore the old FaxStar's unit (running DOS, not Windows...). We will respect the actual contract but at the end of it, we won't renew it. Some of those machine are 15 years old and it's time to move on.

There are mainly three reasons:

it becomes difficult to find old hardware compliant with those machines (ISA board, 386DX..) and it's not situable to return back a machine 3 weeks after we receive it.
it's impossible to correct bugs on that old FaxStar version. Only the Windows FaxStar are updated.
there is no new drivers for the faxboard.

We can still purpose a migration to a 100% compatible version running on Windows.

From time to time, it's not a bad idea to restart the PC on which FaxStar Advanced Server is running. This is why this month, we want to give you some tips to schedule this restart.

First of all, we recommend to do this restart when the traffic is the less important, most of time it would be during the night. Here is what you should schedule:

Stop the FaxStar MailGateway if you own this license. To do so, use the FsGwGui.exe -STOP command.
Then stop the FaxStar application about 5 minutes later using the runfs.exe -STOPcommand.
Restart the PC using the Windows Shutdown -r command. You should wait some minutes for FaxStar to stop before doing this restart.
When the PC is restarting, you can configure Windows to automatically log on. To do so, you can use a small tool given with FaxStar and named Autologon in C:\FaxStar
The if both application, FaxStar and MailGateway are in the startup programm, they should start automatically.

Recent versions of FaxStar has a new feature that show how many faxes are currently pending in the system. Simply press CTRL+I on the black Windows and FaxStar will tell you how many faxes are pending.
Of course, if you want more details about those pending faxes, it is better to build a full pending report using CTRL+C on the black window, and then selecting "Report". You can then create a .CSV file of all pending faxes.
