Greetings,

Since it's the first issue of your Hoctoplus News for year 2010, it's time for us to wish you an Happy New Year!

On our side we continue to modify FaxStar. The Microsoft Exchange 2007 MailGateway is working fine but we need to work on the installation process.

On the Traffic Manger's side, 2 news:
  1. the software is now "English" compliant.
  2. We're adding a new function that will help your user to follow up their traffic easily.
Once again, Happy New Year 2010!

Best regards,

Jean Martel.

Voice over IP and fax
Some advices

Voice over IP (VoIP) is definitely a word in every mouth this time. A lot of companies have already exchange their "old" PABX for a brand new IPBX. The financial benefits are interesting, for sure, but it's also important to remind that for an optimum usage, the network must be able to support the intense load. Most of time you'll have to invest in new routers that support the QoS.

But, even with fine routers, how many times do we hear an echo? How many times the sound is hashing? How many times we do not hear each other?
Of course, when it's a vocal call, we try to make an effort, we imagine the words with the fragments we've heard, but what about a fax call?

A customer we have has recently migrate to a VoIP solution, conclusion: 90% of his fax traffic is failed! When a call is done, the recipient receives a truncated fax or something that is totally unreadable. Even worse, sometimes the fax seems correct, but has been received at 99%. Since the fax machine thinks the fax has not been sent totally, it tries again and again...and the recipient receives 10 orders!

Fax over IP (FoIP) solutions exist, but our advice is to put apart the "fax" call of the rest of your call, for instance using direct lines. Most of time, your IPBX provider know the problem and will provide you with an alternative solution for the fax calls. Do not forget to mention this point!

Receive fax using FaxStar
Free of charge!

Most of our customers are using FaxStar to send faxes, not to receive faxes. But you may know that FaxStar is able to deal with your fax receptions, by sending it by emails for instance. But what you may do not know is that activate the reception is free of charge if you already have a FaxStar that send faxes.

To make it simple: every line declared in your license which is able to send is also able to receive without any extra charge. All you have to do is to change something in your settings to allow this line to receive.

FaxStar is a smart server ; if both of your 2 lines are busy receiving faxes and you ask FaxStar to send a fax, FaxStar will wait one line to be available before trying to send.
Of course you understand that everything depends on the traffic load. If it's important for you to send faxes immediately and are afraid that incoming faxes will busy your lines, than you should extend your license.

Do not hesitate to contact us if you want to activate your incoming line or if you want to extend your license!

Monthly Offer

This month, you'll have until 2010 February the 28th to take advantage of our special offer. It is based on the MailGateway for Microsoft Exchange 2007/2010. This module will allow you users to send faxes from their Outlook clients.

For any order received before the 28/02/2010, you'll have a 20% discount on this module.

Monthly tip
SMS lenght

If you send SMS using FaxStar you may want the server to cut SMS that are over a defined limit in or to send a very big SMS (multipart SMS) in case of error!

Just create this value SMSMaxLen (REG_SZ) in this registry key HKLM\Software\Sepe Inc.\Catalina\SMS and precise the maximum lenght (in decimal). Any SMS that contains more than this limit will be cut to this limit.
