Then I'll tell you about a real support experience, it's a quite funny one.

Real story
John called us this morning, very upset. His 4 lines FaxStar does not send any faxes anymore. In his company, FaxStar has an important place since it's sending 4000 faxes a day!
John has installed a new version of FaxStar and since then...it's not working anymore. John thinks that:
- the newer version of FaxStar is bugged
- or the yesterday storm has broken is faxboard
Hoctoplus Support team:
- takes control of the FaxStar machine remotly,
- notices that the faxboard drivers are not up to date, so installs a new drivers version,
- notices that the error remains,
- takes some traces and logs using FSREPORT,
- notices that for each outgoing call, the faxboard receives an "Error 16" that means "the called number is not a fax number, but a voice one".
John is sure that his numbers are correct, but it seems we can not do anything. We ask John to phone his phone provider, just in case...
John has called us some minutes later, ashamed, his phone provider had closed those phone lines because his company had forget to pay the phone bill!
As a matter of conclusion, even if you have the best fax server in the world, you will always need to pay your phone bills! :p

Customers Applications
Here are few examples of what you can do if you own a FaxStar SMS licence.
Some of our Fax/Emails customers had recently added the SMS option in order to:
- tell their customers that their order is available at the office,
- tell that the order has been shipped,
- tell their customers that one product is not available anymore
- ...
It's always a service that your customer would love.
- You will be able to send informations to your customer in case of special offer,
- you can remember your customers they are late in their bills,
- or simply to inform them that their order is registered.
A lot of application is possible, just imagine what you can do and call us if you want to test this option.
Hoctoplus Monthly Offer
This month, you'll have until 2009 January the 31th to enjoy our special offer. It is based on the FaxStar SMS extension. Using this extension you'll be able to send SMS from your network, email client or from your application servers (UNIX, iSeries...).

Mailing alert on line errors
Do you know that it exists a small tool, provided with your FaxStar Advanced Server licence, which is able to send alerts in case of line errors? This software, easy to configure, can be found in the FaxStar's root directory and its name is CfgDevAlert.exe.
Using this tool, you can specify an email address where alerts will be sent, the sender email address, and of course the rules you want to defined.
Specify in the "Error" part the error codes you want to check after (for instance enter "10" for a loss of connexion. Tell how many more times the error must happen before the warning and the delay between each error.
Regarding the error #10, which is the most serious error to check, we suggest Count=1 and Delay=0 ; like that you'll have an alert email each time you have a #10 error.
This tool will only be able to send emails if the FaxStar is configured to send emails using SMTP and Microsoft IIS. This won't work using SMTP in "connect direct" mode, nore MAPI.
