VOIP and Hoctoplus
Prior to our move, we decided on a new network structure. Since we would like to protect the environment and be more economical, some of Hoctoplus employees are now working from their home. But for such a concept to function, there are certain obstacles that must be dealt with, i.e.:
- Each employee must be easily reached by the company no matter where they are, at home or at a customer site. The employee must be able to make and receive calls like they were at the office.
- Every employee must be able to connect to any network resource of any site. Even at home the employee must be able to access the servers.
- Last, any internal calls between remote employees must be free of charge.
With Innovaphone, we did resolve all this problems!
At the office we have installed an IP800 IPBX, connected to ISDN France Telecom phone lines. Every remote employee owns an IP200 phone which creates a VPN tunnel through the IP800 to the office. This way, any remote site is connected to the same VPN network and can see each other site. No software to install on client PC, everything is transparent! All the servers are connected to the VPN and can be accessed from any site via their local IP address; completely transparent.
Regarding incoming calls, they are routed by the IPBX depending on how the calls are forwarded. Then, if all employees are not reachable (no answer, busy...), you can still leave us a message and we are all notified! Of course, when an employee is out the office, they can still forward their calls to his/her cellular phone.
For internal calls, there is no cost even between distant sites. For external calls we share a trunk SIP account, and if the SIP goes down we can still use the ISDN lines for outgoing calls.
FaxStar Advanced Server
New configuration interface
Over the years, the FaxStar development team has always added options to satisify our customers requests. However, the configuration interface was not designed to show too much information, and this interface, so simple in the past, is now less and less easy to read. Also, a lot of new features were entered in the interface due to lack of space.
That problem is now solved! The latest FaxStar Advanced Server version is built with a new configuration interface, clearer and more complete. No more multiple tabs, the interface is now presented as a tree with scrolls. This new interface will allow us to add some new menus, like an advanced settings option, and maybe you will discover some new options you didn't know about.
This change can appear as minor, but we are sure it's not since it will help us in a better administration of the product.
The Hoctoplus Monthly Offer

Give a dynamic name to the attachment
By default, when you send an email with FaxStar Advanced Server using the **MAILG command, the name of the attachment is always FAX.TIF. Do you know that it's possible to give a dynamic name to this image based on the **REFX command?
In order to do so, you just have to add the MailSysFlags DWORD value (at 1) in the registry key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE/Sepe Inc./Catalina/Config and then restart FaxStar Advanced Server.
